5 Qualities Of a Good Pastor

Robert Morris

Good pastors are key figures for a church. He is someone people will follow for their spiritual journey. A good pastor can change the lives of people. It is important to be the best version of yourself as a pastor because people want someone as their spiritual leader with whom they can connect. Following are some of the qualities of a good pastor:

Have raw faith

People never follow a pastor who lacks authentic faith. We are not saying that your faith is not real, what we mean is your faith should be raw and pure and it should reflect your love for Jesus. Having a strong faith in your principles make people believe that this person would lead us the right way. A good pastor must practice raw faith.

Connect with people

What is the most important thing people see in a good pastor? It’s the way you connect with them! Creating a connection with the people you follow is very important. You should be putting people before anything to make them proceed in the right direction. They should understand that our Pastor is the person we can rely on even if we are going through the worst.

Have grace

It is hard to define grace yet it is one of the important traits of a good pastor. Having grace doesn’t mean having a unique personality. It is a spiritual thing that makes people instantly believe that this pastor is what we were looking for. The more kind, empathetic, and loving towards you are, the more grace you hold in yourself.

Be a trustworthy leader

Trust is everything you need to be a good leader. If your followers are not trusting you as a spiritual leader, they can never confide in you. Being a trustworthy leader means you have to develop a sense of trust with your followers. Let them know that you trust them and you are their friend, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen. It makes a huge difference.

Preach hope more than faith

A lot of pastors preach faith but only a few focus on “hope”. Preaching hope means you are making people believe that even if they have not been closer to God, God loves them. It tells people that they can change and be a better version of themselves because there are always chances we can take. An optimistic approach to creating a bond with God is always preferable.

A good pastor never puts his church's needs as a priority because his followers are what he should be prioritizing. Being a pastor comes with big responsibilities because people are going to follow you. A wrong signal can break the bond in their spiritual journey and they might stop coming to church at all.

How To Grow Your Church Attendance

How To Grow Your Church Attendance

It is no wonder that churches are facing a decline in church attendance. With the busy world we are living in, it has become hard for people to visit the church regularly. 28% of people say they don’t have time to visit a church.

Before thinking about how you can grow your church attendance, the important thing is to think about why it is hard for people to attend. In this way, you will be able to figure out the problem and give a solution to it. For example, people don’t attend churches because:

• Their jobs are hectic

• They can’t afford a babysitter for kids

• They can’t relate to the church preaching

• They don’t have time

The reasons are obvious and genuine but how can your church play a role to help people about it? Following are some of the tips that can help you to grow church attendance:

Inform About Your Events

When a visitor visits a church and has a good experience, he is likely to visit again. It is the church’s duty to update him about the upcoming event so that he can attend it. By making use of connection cards, churches can understand how a visitor wants to be approached.

Some people like text messages, others like a call or email. It also depends on the age group, preferences, and the schedule they have daily. The easiest way is to text your visitor about an upcoming event using an easy church messaging service like Text In Church and he will know when to attend the event.

Keep the Sermons Short

Another important tip is to shorten the length of your sermons. Most people are unable to attend church events because they don’t have time for it. They can’t sit for hours because they have jobs to do or kids to look after or do basic chores they left out for the weekend.

A valuable and touchy sermon of 30 minutes is enough instead of 60 minutes. Today’s generation needs everything in short form. They are fast, active, and very smart as well. The more valuable content you make them absorb in a short time, the more likely they are going to attend the next event.

Encourage Visitors’ Presence

Always encourage your visitors’ presence. Someone thought your church is valuable and credible and they manage time to visit you. It is your responsibility to make his visit honorable by appreciating him with you.

Pastors also say a special welcoming wish for the new visitors and encourage their presence. It is a great way to build a connection.

Make Your Church Kids-Friendly

Young families who have babies, toddler’s o small kids must feel welcome at your church. The church should be responsible to make the environment child-friendly by incorporating a high-quality nursery for kids. Many churches hire babysitters or experienced volunteers who take care of the kids and make them busy with activities while the parents find some time to connect with God.

Encourage Members to Bring Friends

Your current church members are your biggest assets. They are the ones who will spread good word of mouth for your church. You have to encourage them to bring their family and friends to church events. You can also arrange a ‘Friends & Family Day’ to have more people on board.
